At Professional Language Solutions we know how fortunate we are to have such a hardworking and dedicated army of freelance teachers; there are over 500 of them and we are very proud of the work they do.
We understand that as a freelance teacher you can sometimes feel disconnected with the rest of the team, so we’ve decided to shine a spotlight on one of our excellent teachers each quarter with a regular ‘meet the teacher’ slot on our blog.
This week, we’ve been talking to Andrew Scott. He’s an English teacher from London, he’s been on the PLS teaching team for over 15 years and a teacher for 20.
I became an EFL teacher…
For the reason many people do: to travel, to meet people, because I liked teaching in my gap year and because the thought of a life behind a desk was not for me.
I’m inspired by…
People who look forward, not back.
The best thing about being a language teacher is…
The greatest thing you learn doing this job is that there’s no such thing as a dull person. Everyone has a story to tell.
My first impressions of Professional Language Solutions were…
Friendly, efficient and fun.
When I was a child, I wanted to be…
John Wayne or David Bowie – there’s still time.
Language interests me because…
Etymology fascinates me. I love the way words get twisted and turned and travelled and reinvented.
My most memorable teaching moment…
I’ve taught everyone from celebrity TV chefs, to bankers, from Disney costume designers, to accountants, from submarine engineers to helicopter test pilots. But my memorable moments always involve students who were reluctantly thrust into English lessons and then never wanted them to end.
